Bethany A. S. Harrison

Bethany started her career in prosecution in 2006 with the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Office. She prosecutes a wide range of criminal offenses including murder, robbery, sexual assault, domestic violence, and crimes against children. She serves as a guest lecturer for numerous local colleges and civic groups on topics such as the role of the prosecutor, Virginia court procedure, domestic violence, illicit drug distribution, juvenile justice, sexual assault, and crimes against children. Bethany is the Chairwoman for the Coalition Against Domestic Violence for the 24th Judicial District and is Board president for CASA of Central Virginia. She also serves on the board of the YWCA of Central Virginia and is a Rotarian. She and her family are members of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Mike joined the office as an Assistant in August 2004. After graduating from law school, Mike served as a judge advocate in the United States Army, where he prosecuted offenses under the UCMJ and worked as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. He currently prosecutes a wide range of felonies and misdemeanors in General District and Circuit Courts.

Mike lives in Lynchburg with his wife and daughter, and is an avid distance runner.

Jennifer S. Bennett

Jennifer joined the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office in 2004. Prior to coming to Lynchburg, she practiced privately in Charlottesville and taught online legal research for Westlaw. For nine years, Jennifer was a member of the Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence Unit, receiving nationwide specialized training in evidence based prosecution and the traumas experienced by adult and child victims. As a Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, she now works on the general prosecution team and has prosecuted all manner of crimes from murder and rape to gang crimes and child exploitation cases. Jennifer is also cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Federal government. Embracing technology as both an evidentiary tool and a presentation tool, Jennifer has attended the National Computer Forensic Institute and was on the founding faculty for Virginia’s iPads in the Courtroom course for prosecutors. A mother of two active daughters, she lives in Amherst with her husband and enjoys curling up with a good book when time allows.

Janell R. Johnson

Janell joined the office as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in 2000 and was promoted to Senior Assistant in 2006. In addition to prosecuting a broad range of felonies and misdemeanors, she supervises the Juvenile and Domestic Relations prosecution team. Before working as a prosecutor, Janell was in private practive in Roanoke, specializing in personal injury defense.

She currently lives in Bedford County with her husband, two children, and two dogs.

Marsha R. Calohan

Marsha joined the Lynchburg Commonwealth Attorney’s Office in January 2017. She is a part-time Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney working primarily with domestic violence cases in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Prior to coming back to Lynchburg, Marsha served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Danville, Virginia, where she handled both juvenile and domestic violence cases. Before making the transition to prosecution, Marsha served as an Assistant Public Defender in the City of Lynchburg, where she represented court appointed clients. In addition to her experience with criminal law, Marsha completed specialized training to become a Guardian Ad Litem for children.

She currently lives in Campbell County with her husband and children.

Jessie L. Dumond

Jessie joined the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in July of 2015. She is a member of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations prosecution team and prosecutes misdemeanors and felonies arising out of the Lynchburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. She is a member of the Coalition Against Domestic Violence for the 24th Judicial District where she serves as Publicity Chair. She has attended training at the National Conference on Crimes Against Women and has been trained in the ChildFirst protocol for forensic interviewing of children. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Jessie served as an Assistant Public Defender in the City of Lynchburg from 2007 to 2015.

Originally from Abingdon, VA, Jessie now lives in Bedford County with her husband and four children.

Brittany E. Roark

Brittany joined the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in August 2016. She currently handles most of the misdemeanors in General District Court and some felony cases in Circuit Court.

Brittany was born and raised in Lynchburg where she attended Jefferson Forest High School. She is an avid sports fan, and avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Kelsey joined the office as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in January 2015.  Prior to coming to Lynchburg, she was a Special Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Richmond.  She currently prosecutes a broad range of offenses in the General District and Circuit Court.

 

Katie M. Spaeth

Katie joined the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorneys Office in September 2016 as the assistant to our body worn camera program. Katie was responsible for jumpstarting the program while working closely with the Lynchburg Police Department to manage all video evidence and advise on potential issues.  Katie was promoted to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in July 2017 and currently handles a broad range of offenses in General District Court.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Katie now resides in Campbell County with her husband and daughter.

Matt joined the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Office in August 2015. He currently prosecutes a wide range of felonies and misdemeanors, but primarily works as a part of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations prosecution team. Prior to becoming an attorney, he was an executive in the building supply industry for over ten years in North and South Carolina.

Matt lives in Lynchburg with his family. In his free time, he is an avid outdoorsman and a rabid sports fan.

Jessica is originally from Duluth, MN, and lives in Lynchburg, VA. In her free time, Jessica enjoys road trips, hiking, and baking.
