Human Services (99 9th Street, 5th floor, training room #530). The press
conference will follow a 9:30 am breakfast sponsored by the 24th Judicial
District Domestic Violence Coalition commemorating National Victims’
Rights Week.
The Lynchburg City Family Violence Fatality Review Team is an organization
of criminal justice, social service, and health professionals who meet on
an ongoing basis to review and discuss instances of fatal family violence
on an interagency level in order to create a body of information which can
be shared, analyzed, and disseminated among participating members to
promote a proactive response to the problem of family violence in
Lynchburg.
Since the formation of the team in 2002, key representatives from all the
major criminal justice, social service, and health service agencies in
Lynchburg have worked to develop the structure and focus of the team. The
1st annual report includes numerous findings and recommendations for
system response developed during the review of a specific domestic
violence fatality that occurred in Lynchburg.
Speakers at the press conference will include Amina Luqman, Family
Violence Surveillance Coordinator, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner;
The Honorable William Light, Judge, Lynchburg Juvenile and Domestic
Relations District Court; and H. Cary Payne, former Chair of the Lynchburg
City Family Violence Fatality Review Team and Deputy Commonwealth’s
Attorney for Amherst County. Other members of the team representing the
City’s local criminal justice agencies, social services, and health
services will also be present to answer questions after the presentation.
Various agency leaders, dignitaries, and local and state government
officials have been invited to the breakfast and formal presentation.
