The Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has received a substantial portion, but not all, of the Virginia State Police investigatory report on the death of Clarence Beard, Jr. on September 24, 2006. The State Police have told us that we should receive the balance of the report by the middle of next week. In the meantime, Michael Doucette, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Lynchburg has begun reviewing the material on hand.
We anticipate that the complete report will be quite lengthy. Only after the entire report has been received and reviewed will Mr. Doucette announce his findings and conclusions.
We appreciate the fact that the citizens of Lynchburg are anxious for a resolution of this matter. However, in order to be fair to all involved; the family and friends of Mr. Beard and the Lynchburg Police Department officers involved especially; we must look at all the facts available to us. We hope to be able to make that public announcement by the end of next week or the beginning of the following week. ### |
