Mike Doucette joined the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in
1984, became Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in 1990, and became Chief
Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2002. In March 2006,
he was appointed
Acting
Commonwealth's Attorney, when the previous Commonwealth's Attorney,
William G. Petty, was selected to be a judge on the Virginia Court of
Appeals.
Mike became Commonwealth’s Attorney in November, 2006 when he was
elected without opposition.
He has also been
cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the
Western District of Virginia since 1995.
In 2003, Mike was honored by the Virginia Association of
Commonwealth’s Attorney with the “Von Schuch Award” as the outstanding
assistant or deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney for the entire state. In
2005, he received the Lynchburg Police Department’s Honorable Service
Award.
Mike serves on the Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Services Council and the
Virginia Criminal Justice Conference. He has also served as the Moot
Court Coordinator for the American Legion’s Boys State of Virginia.
He is the president of the board of directors for the Virginia Legal
Aid Society, is a member of the Lynchburg Museum Advisory Board, and
is a regular Volunteer Innkeeper at The Gateway, a half-way house for
homeless men with substance abuse issues.
For many years, Mike has returned to Williamsburg,
Virginia
to teach fellow prosecutors statewide at the “Murder 1” homicide
school, the “Top Gun” drug enforcement school, or the Trial Advocacy
school. He is a frequent faculty member for the National College of
District Attorneys trial advocacy courses in Columbia,
South Carolina
and the Virginia Institute of Forensic Science and Medicine’s courses
on Advanced DNA. He has also lectured for the Maryland State
Attorneys’ Association and the William & Mary Bar Review course.
Mike is a Cold War veteran of the United States Air Force. He lives
in Lynchburg with his wife, Beth, and family. In his spare time, he
is an avid runner and takes part in the annual Special Olympics Torch
Run. He also plays, coaches and referees soccer. |
