  Frequently Asked Questions

What do you look for in an intern applicant?

Applicants should be law students in good standing with their university. Preference is given to applicants with a third year practice certificate. Most of our work involves trying cases; therefore, having the practice certificate will enable the intern the full experience of criminal prosecution. Strong writing, research and communication skills go hand in hand with effective prosecution. Preference will also be given to those with an interest in criminal prosecution as a career.

What will be my duties as an intern?

Intern assignments vary according to office needs. Duties will include but are not limited to court observation, case file preparation, prosecution of criminal cases, brief writing, and contacting witnesses.

Are the internships paid positions?

No, these positions are voluntary or for academic credit.

How involved is an intern in prosecuting criminal cases?

We endeavor to give interns the full experience of trying a criminal case from beginning to end. The intern will be assigned cases to prepare under an attorney’s supervision. An intern with a third year practice certificate will be expected to try cases in court under an attorney’s supervision.
